I usually do most of the talking. Here, I’ll let my students and their parents have a turn.Bình thường trên lớp chị là người nói nhiều nhất.

You’ll also find the review notes I write for my classes, a little about how I teach, and a bit about the person responsible for all those graphs.

I made this page partly for myself, too. Somewhere to keep the moments that might otherwise get buried in old messages, look back on how my teaching has developed, and keep adding to the story as I go.Trang này chị làm một phần cũng là cho mình: một chỗ cất giữ những khoảnh khắc lẽ ra đã trôi mất trong mấy đoạn chat cũ, để nhìn lại mình đã dạy ra sao, và cứ thế viết thêm dần.

One for the keep-forever pileLá thư chị giữ mãi

“It was somewhere during those late night Zoom calls that I started falling in love with this subject.”“Chính trong những cuộc gọi Zoom đêm khuya ấy em bắt đầu yêu môn học này.”

I probably didn’t leave a good impression on you, given how I was largely absent in your micro classes for the majority of the class. To be honest I was really intimidated by the complicated charts and the sheer amount of knowledge we had to learn, and ended up procrastinating… I finally realized the urgency of the situation 5 days before the exam and had to activate all of my brain capacity to get started on chapter 1.Chắc chị không có ấn tượng tốt về em lắm, vì gần như cả khóa Micro em toàn vắng mặt.

Thank you so much for being patient with me through all of this; sometimes I don’t get how you can explain the same concept for the 5th time when you’re solving the mock tests, or how you can have 1AM Zoom calls with me to go over our remaining questions. I had a gut feeling that I would get a 5 after the exam, and that was all thanks to your guidance and support. You probably also saved me in Macro as well, haha. I’m so touched by your help that extended to this subject after my Micro exam was over.

More importantly, it was somewhere during those late night Zoom calls that I started falling in love with this subject. I began to question things beyond what was given in the slides, whether it be real life applications or hypothetical “what-ifs”, and you were willing to entertain my curiosities. I still remember the shutdown point and giggle at my sister’s inelastic demand for milk tea now. You made micro seem exciting to me in less than a week; that’s not an easy feat at all.

Dedicated educators like you continue to inspire and motivate me every day. I’ll always be grateful for having met you in my AP class.

P.S. Getting a 5 in Micro & Macro after only 5 days of cramming will forever be something I’m proud of saying to my grandkids.Tái bút: Được 5 cả Micro lẫn Macro chỉ sau 5 ngày ôn ‘nước rút’ chắc chắn sẽ là chuyện em tự hào kể cho con cháu sau này.

A year later: Economics went well. Calculus had other plans.Một năm sau: Kinh tế thì ổn rồi. Còn Giải tích thì… chưa chắc.

“This time last year I was still struggling with micro and macro, and this year I’m dying with calculus. I realized that the only reason I could get a 5 on both of those exams was you. Your Zoom sessions saved me. I will never meet another teacher as passionate as you.”“Giờ này năm ngoái em còn đang vật lộn với Micro và Macro, năm nay thì ‘ngập’ trong Giải tích.

“I’m so grateful you taught me. Even though I often asked silly questions, you always answered without judging me. When we were revising and doing past papers, you were the one who helped me most. After my first Macro mock I panicked and felt so hopeless I nearly gave up on the exam, but a few days later you messaged our group chat and I felt so much less anxious. You even helped me with a subject you didn’t teach, and never minded when I flooded you with messages before and after exam day.”“Em thật sự rất biết ơn khi được chị dạy.

How I teachCách chị dạy

A few things I’m particular aboutVài điều chị coi trọng

How I teach, what I keep an eye on, and what my students have to say about it.Cách chị dạy, và các em nói gì về điều đó.

Taking as long as it takesChậm mà chắc

Your understanding matters more to me than how quickly we get there. I start from first principles and connect new ideas to things you already know. If something needs explaining a fifth time, we’ll give it a fifth explanation. I’m happy to keep working through it with you, provided you’re putting in the work and reviewing too.Với chị, hiểu chắc quan trọng hơn hiểu nhanh.

“Sometimes I don’t get how you can explain the same concept for the 5th time.”“Đôi khi em không hiểu sao chị có thể giảng lại cùng một khái niệm đến lần thứ 5.”

Please, ask me thingsCứ hỏi, đừng ngại

I’m here to help, so make use of me. Ask in class or send me a message afterwards. Your question doesn’t need to be beautifully phrased. “I’m lost” is a perfectly good place to start. A student asking lots of questions worries me far less than one quietly collecting misunderstandings.

“Even though I often asked silly questions, you always answered without judging me.”“Dù em hay hỏi mấy câu ngơ ngơ, chị vẫn luôn trả lời mà không hề phán xét em.”

A safe place to get things wrongSai cũng không sao

I want my classes to feel like somewhere you can try an answer, get it wrong, and work out why without feeling embarrassed. Exam day is a rather inconvenient time to discover you’ve misunderstood something. And if the habits we practise—asking questions, thinking things through, trying again—stay with you beyond AP Economics, I’d count that as a very good result.

“Thank you so much for never scolding me.”“Em cảm ơn chị nhiều lắm vì đã không mắng em.”

AboutGiới thiệu

Portrait of Linh

Hi, I’m Linh. I’ve been teaching AP Economics since 2016, helping students make sense of a subject whose favourite answer is “it depends”.Chào các em, chị là Linh.

Before I became the person setting homework, I was the person doing it at Hanoi–Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. I then went to the UK for A-Levels in Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Government & Politics, before studying Economics at University College London.

After university, I spent time volunteering and travelling solo through nearly ten countries in Africa and the Middle East. I also conducted some fairly extensive research into the local food – purely academic, of course 😎 Alongside teaching, I have also worked on UK Government-funded international development programmes in Vietnam, where the questions tend to come without a mark scheme.

My goal is to make economics clear, approachable and interesting enough that you occasionally forget you’re studying for an exam. I want you to understand why things happen, feel comfortable asking questions, and leave with more than a collection of memorised graphs. And if I can help beyond the classroom, I’m always happy to.Chị muốn môn Kinh tế rõ ràng, dễ gần và đủ thú vị để đôi khi các em quên mất mình đang ôn thi.
